National Youth Orchestra Concert

It was great to be able to meet my constituent Sophie Rogan, a violinist in the National Youth Orchestra ahead of their stirring and energetic concert at the Barbican on Sunday. All the musicians are between the ages of 13 and 19 and the NYO gives them a great chance to play with an orchestra, develop their repertoire and do concerts at great venues like this well known London concert hall.76

The music was wonderfully played – in particular the Cello Concerto No1 by Shostakovich featuring soloist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who recently won the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition playing this very piece. Well done to Sophie and all the orchestra. They were very good.
