Fixing Personal Independence Payments

In November the High Court ruled that the Tories' changes to disability benefits, or Personal Independence Payments (PIP) as they are now known, were "blatantly discriminate" against people with mental health conditions. The Government have accepted this decision and will review roughly 1.6million disability claims.

This week I asked the newly appointed Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Ester McVey, to tell me how long my disabled constituents will have to wait for their back-payments and entitlements to be reinstated. It was a disappointing response from a Minister who can’t give a simple answer to a simple question.

Many of my constituents who are fully entitled to PIP are still facing financial hardship as a result of this Government’s shocking mismanagement of the benefits system, they need this situation resolved now.
